Bylaws for The Society for the Advancement of Computing (SAC) At Hofstra University.

Article I Name
  • 1. This organization shall be called The Society for the Advancement of Computing.
Article II Purpose
  • 1. The Chapter is organized and will be operated exclusively for educational and scientific purposes to promote the following:
    • a An increased knowledge of and greater interest in the science, design, development, construction, languages, management and applications of modern computing.
    • b Greater interest in computing and its applications.
    • c A means of communication between persons having an interest in computing.
  • 2. The Chapter will serve students at Hofstra University and other interested persons in the Hempstead, N.Y. community.
  • 3. The Chapter is chartered by the ACM.
Article III Membership
[The provisions of this section must conform to the membership provisions specified in SAC's Bylaws (Bylaw 6, Section 5; SAC Constitution Article 3)].
  • 1. Membership in this student society shall be open to all.
  • 2. "Student Membership" shall be granted to qualifying students attending Hofstra University.
  • 3. "Affiliate membership" shall be granted to anyone who is not eligible for a "Student Membership" (Bylaw 3, Section 2;).
  • 4. Council positions in SAC are reserved for students that are eligible for a "Student Membership" (Bylaw 3, Section 3;)
  • 5. Voting is a duty of each member. Both Student and Affiliate members may vote on issues announced at SAC meetings.
Article IV Officers
  • 1. The officers of this Society shall be: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. These officers constitute the Council.
  • 2. The officers shall be elected by a plurality of the votes cast at the annual election meeting. They shall take office on or before April 20th and serve for one year.
  • 3. No member may serve in the office of Chair or Vice Chair for more than two consecutive years.
  • 4. Resignations from a position shall result in recognition of candidate replacements one week after resignation and an election and replacement will take affect two weeks after resignation.
  • 5. In the case of full absence of duties for a period of two or more weeks without explanation; and no contact can be established, the counsel may see fit to replace the member by holding a new election for the abandoned position.
